It is with heavy hearts yet immense gratitude that we pen these words of tribute to Paradise Manor Care Home in Rheenendal. Within the past three months, this place became more than just a care facility; it became a haven of love and solace for our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Though her journey with us has reached its bittersweet conclusion, we find peace in knowing that her final days were embraced by the unparalleled compassion and devotion of Sharon Armour and her exceptional team of nurses and carers. Their dedication knew no bounds as they provided not just medical care but unwavering support and genuine affection to our dear mom. The kindness exhibited toward her was beyond measure. Each smile, every tender gesture, and the warmth in their hearts spoke volumes about the exceptional care they provided. It was a testament to their professionalism and, more importantly, their compassion that transcended the call of duty. Our family will forever hold a deep gratitude for the love bestowed upon our mother during her stay at Paradise Manor. It was a home where she found comfort, companionship, and most importantly, a place where her dignity was preserved till the very end. We take comfort in the knowledge that she passed surrounded by individuals who became an extension of our family. Their care, their love, and their unwavering support will always be cherished in our hearts. To Sharon Armour and the entire team at Paradise Manor Care Home, words cannot adequately express the depth of our appreciation. Your dedication and love illuminated our mother's final journey, and for that, we will be eternally grateful. With heartfelt thanks and everlasting gratitude to Sharon, Primrose, Shahida, Joyce, Brian, Theo, Samantha, Vanessa, Leanne and of course Pearly. With love from Steve and Theresa, Rus and Mike, Leigh and Mark, Ryan, Tayla, Laura and Julian, Summer xx
Early this year I really battled to find a good care home for my ailing mother, who I needed to move from PE to the Garden Route with some urgency. She had fallen and was becoming bedridden, and needed more than a daily carer. Every other retirement establishment I called wanted a hefty buy in. If they weren't full already... It was very disconcerting to have to talk about down payments of R300 000 and then monthly frail care costs of upwards of R30 000 when your parent is gravely ill. (Sadly, we didn't know just how ill my mom was until she was already at PM but still.) I though it was quite extortionate. So it was with some relief when I spoke to Sharon at PM. For her, it wasn't all about the money... The care home is just that; a care home that is homely. But in a gorgeous horse farm setting. This is what I needed for my mom. Sharon was quick to move on my request; we met, we spoke about our unique situation and she helped me as much as she could. She even offered to fetch my mother. The carers were all very accommodating and friendly. My mom was extremely sensitive and did not like being 'handled' so it took some adjustment, for both parties. At first my mom was quite happy. Unfortunately, it turned out she was sicker than we imagined - she only spent 3,5 months there before she passed away. Sharon and her team did all they could to make her comfortable, even mixing herbal skin creams for her to prevent bed sores. They were very supportive, organising doctor's visits, medication etc. My mother was especially fond of Pake and Shahida (who even washed my mom's hair to make her feel better.) I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this care home; if assisted living is a required. I'm especially grateful to Sharon and the carers, who are all very special people. Thank you to Sharon for being flexible and allowing family to see my mom when it wasn't strictly visiting times.... I am immensely grateful for the care my mom received as she was not an easy resident.
11 years ago we placed our 46 year old daughter in Paradise Manor Care Home. Having tried 4 different facilities we soon appreciated that now she could not be in a better Home. For this reason we are surprised to read negative reports from some. We salute Sharon, her family and all involved in Paradise Manor for maintaining good health in these extremely difficult and uncharted times. Adding to this the very devastating effects that a covid outbreak would have had/will have amongst the vulnerable group of people, makes one's admiration for how Sharon and her staff performed, even greater. I challenge anyone to do better in caring for 10 - 14 residents 24/7 in the present day situation. Staff members have left their own families to live and work unceasingly on site without "time out" away from it all for a couple of months long. It is an enormous ask and this request has been made yet again as the 2nd wave of Covid gains momentum. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all involved in running and care given to our loved ones.
